The real-time strategy game launches on Steam April 20th for $19.99.

Today, Microsoft announced that Halo Wars Definitive Edition is coming to Steam. Initially, the Definitive Edition was available on Xbox One and on the Windows 10 Store in February this year but only if you pre-ordered Halo Wars 2.

The Steam version will support achievements, Steam Cloud, leaderboards, and Steam Trading Cards. Microsoft have also confirmed that the game's multiplayer will work within the Steamworks framework, which means you won't need an Xbox Live membership to play online.

The game's description on Steam confirms that people who got the game with Halo Wars 2 won't be able to play with people who buy it on Steam. "Network play for this product is exclusive to Steam," it stated. "Cross-play with Windows Store versions of the same game is not supported."

The minimum specs are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64bit or higher
  • CPU: Intel i3 or equivalent
  • RAM: 4GB
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4200 or Nvidia GeForce 740M or AMD Radeon R5 M240
  • Storage: 12 GB available space
