Ninja Theory announced today the release date and price of their upcoming self-published AAA title, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, with a trailer which you can watch above.
"Our aim is to bring back the mid-size game, so Hellblade is half the size of a AAA game, but sold at half the price," Ninja Theory stated. "In Hellblade we are pursuing creative independence in order to explore a compelling subject matter and gaming experience that would not be possible under the current retail model. [...] If we can make Hellblade a success, others will follow to make games a richer, more varied place for both gamers and developers."
The game's story focuses on the mental health of main character Senua, who is a Celtic warrior. The developers worked closely with University of Cambridge professor of health and neuroscience Paul Fletcher to treat the serious subject matter of mental health issues with respect and sensitivity. The game was made by a small team of 20 people throughout the last 3 years.
The game will be available on PS4 through the PlayStation Store and on PC through Steam and GOG on August 8th.
