During the Electronic Arts E3 2016 Press Conference more footage was shown for Battlefield 1. Set during World War 1, the trailers depict that developer DICE Studios is mixing in the Battlefield combat you’re used to with the aesthetic flavor of the Great War.
Containing both CGI cutscenes and in-engine gameplay, the trailer depicts the different theaters of war and the weapons you’d experience in Battlefield 1. You can use a multitude of weapons like rifles, sub machine guns, and heavy machine guns to mow down enemy infantry while tanks, motorcycles, and armored cars dominate the battlefield. In the air you can fight against other enemy aircraft, bomb the ground troops, and also attack the massive airships that can crash into the ground and become part of the map.
Destructible environments, a main feature of the Frostbite engines, will play a major part in Battlefield 1. In the trailer we can see entire houses and structures getting torn to pieces from bullets and artillery shells. Craters will form and become new points of defense. Dynamic weather like rain storms and heavy fogs will appear on the map and slightly change fighting conditions on the maps.
After the press conference Electronic Arts showed a live match of Battlefield 1 with celebrities and YouTube personalities fighting each other on a Western Front map between the German Empire and Great Britain. The weather effects were on display and new details like piloted airships were mentioned.
Battlefield 1 is slated to release on October 21, 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you have any comments, leave them below.
