Two man student team Hopoo Games have announced their next game, Risk of Rain 2. The game has been in development for about 6 months but it's still very early stages of development. The biggest difference from the first game is that it's going to be 3D instead of 2D.
"We think that 3D allows for much deeper design spaces and more possibilities for cool gameplay," Hopoo Games stated. "Feelings of scale and atmosphere are also much stronger. We are really happy with the core of Risk of Rain - and we’re finding it plays even better in 3D."
In a follow up post on the dev blog, Hopoo Games have stated that the game is being developed in Unity and that they're aiming to make online multiplayer and 2 player split screen co-op much smoother.
The first Risk of Rain was funded through Kickstarter and was released November 2013 for Windows. The game was later ported for Mac, Linux, Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita. According to SteamSpy the game sold approximately 1.4 million copies on Steam.
