Today THQ Nordic have released a Gameplay Trailer for This Is The Police 2, the sequel to the police management sim that was announced back in February of this year. You can watch the trailer above.
Like in the first game you will be able to assign specific officers to specific cases and make decisions on what your officers should do. However what the new trailer shows off is a new Turn-Based Strategy system that was not in the first game. Each officer will have their own stats, having specific strengths and weaknesses, depending on the situation.
"Every challenge requires the player’s direct participation, and the outcomes will depend on every decision you make," wrote the developer Weappy Studio. "Your subordinates aren’t just some resource; they are living people with their own strengths, weaknesses, fears and prejudices, and you'll have to reckon with all these things in order to survive."
Players will have squads of officers at their disposal that they will be able to level up, letting the players choose how to specialize their officers by putting points into one of their stats: Strength, Intelligence, Speed, Stealth, Shooting or Negotiation. Depending on how you choose to specialize your officers , they will be able to earn special abilities: an example shown in the trailer is an officer named Harold Rankin earning a Hunter Perk allowing him to disarm explosive devices and notice traps.
"One bullet can kill your cop. If you're injured, for example, in your arm—you can't use your gun. Or, if you're injured in your leg, you can't run." game director Ilya Yanovich states in an interview with PC Gamer. "If you fail to heal your injured officers, they'll die after a few turns. This makes a huge difference on how you plan your actions. [...] It's still about looking after a department, it's still about managing the whole thing. You still have investigations, a lot of calls, a lot of mechanics. There are a lot of improvements over the first game, but this tactical mode is the biggest new thing for the sequel."
This is the Police 2 is scheduled to come out on Steam, GOG, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch sometime this year.
